since we know they were in a class together what kind of times did the grads range from?

dn_wisconsin 05-22-2008 05:06 PM

Not sure exactly what times they had but my from what i understand it was between 300-400 hours. most of them did just fine, a few needed more oe. we also have extra required oe for people with less time, basically if you have one year at a regional you dont need it.

Yes, but how will they do as captains, thats what bothers me, i guess we will find out in 4 or 5 years.

At the Jan. DFW Job Fair, Spirit told pilots no nice unless you have glass time..

That's crazy, Guys....

When I was at the ALPA-sponsored Air Inc. Job Fair in DFW back in JAN, the recruiters for Spirit were telling folks that they weren't interested unless you had "glass time". They were telling this to furloughed 10,000 turbojet PIC Captains...

If this is true, that's BEE-S, BS.

Not that recent ERAU grads don't deserve a chance, but come on now, how much "glass time" can they possibly have? And is it in the C172?

Even if they have 1000 TT, all glass, is that better than all the Turbojet PIC's currently on the street, glass time or no glass. I'll take the turbojet PIC, sans glass any day.

What do you all think?

Respectfully,

The hiring trend here is very interesting, to say the least among other things. I almost think it depends which reqruiter you talk to that day (there is no hiring standardization here). When I got hired here a year ago, they would not even look at your app if you had less than 1000 Turbine PIC.

Nothing against any of those furloughed folks you were referring to, but I can tell you that in the past we have had enough t-prop guys fail out of class that it has caused the hiring folks to be wary of anyone that doesnt have at least some experience with glass/fms. I dont agree with it, but I do believe that is the reason for it.

dn_wisconsin 05-23-2008 01:21 PM

pinnaclefo, what bothers you about them upgrading in 4 or 5 years? dont get me wrong i wish i could be a captain before them espically since i put my time in at a regional and made captain there. dont you think in 4 or 5 years they will have the experience to be a captain on the bus?

B727DRVR 05-23-2008 03:28 PM

I'll bet the recruiters didn't have glass time when they went there...

Hey Captscott,

I have a TON of friends from 135 Yip - SDF days and a ton of friends from KHA that all went to Spirit.. Virtually none of them had glass time, but all had PIC turbojet and lots of experience..

When I heard the recruiters at the job fair telling people that, I felt like saying, "Well, you didn't have glass time when YOU got on there.."

My point here is that there are many more qualified pilots on the street that need jobs more than the 8 whiz kids from Riddle (No matter how good they are), who may still have the benefit of Student loans and may still have parental support.

We pilots need to press our training departments to do preferential hiring for furloughees like Atlas, Polar, NetJets, and others have. We really need to stick together in these tough times. The Riddle guys will have plenty of chances to work a normal career progression, helping them gain flight time and experience, without hurting more qualified fellow pilots that are currently unemployed.

In Unity,

B727DRVR
