Default What's next for SWA...

Hey everyone, just curious. What type of fleet will we see SWA getting over the next 10-15-20 years, assuming they are still around. Do you think that Boeing will keep pushing the development of their 737s or will SW start to invest in widebodies like 767s or even 777s. I'm just a low time private pilot, but I have flown several times from BNA- RDU to visit my girlfriend, and those flights are ALWAYS full. I know they like their one plane fleet system and it's real smart, but would it be a good idea to add some larger capacity airplanes? 737's are great but why not take one 767 or one 777 instead of two 737's? Just a thought.

Its all about the A320 family.
Ive been wondering what the next big domestic aircraft will be.
First it was the 737, than the A320, what is next?
I believe that next new revolutionary plane is what SW will get

Yeah man it can get especially frustrating in your case. They don't have to get 757s per se...they can opt for the 737-8series but it would mean that they would have to rework their numbers, programming to accomodate the 4th cabin member in their scheduling.

In terms of airframes, SWA is Boeing's largest customer. It also has one of the largest order backlogs and obviously, the money to buy more aircraft.
Rumour has it that SWA is hammering Boeing hard to take technology from the new 787 dreamliner and incorporate it into a fourth generation 737. Barring that, it will most likely be a short version of the 787.
The reason SWA likes the smaller aircraft is because they only make money in the air and the bigger the aircraft, the longer it takes to load and unload.

one of the main points of swa's business model is their ONE aircraft type. they only have to keep spare parts for one aircraft, reducing costs. If they did stray from the 37, i see them buying up 87s

Low cost cargo/package carrier. They will probably cut holes in their older aircraft and fly cargo. Very lucartive for older aircraft with a few more years of flying in them.
