This is absolutely what needs to happen at ALL carriers low cost or not. If they want to travel cheaper tell them to take Greyhound. This way maybe some of us can stop living like bus drivers.

Just paint "Trailways" or "Greyhound" on the side of the planes. Then paint "United" "American" "Delta" etc. on the side of the buses and trains. Call it roll reversal... Just like when it was cheaper to take the train and bus.

However there are far too many pilots who think that there really is no difference between being a bus driver and an Airbus driver.
We're surrounded by them.

Why would they back down? If you fly 1 million passengers, and add a $10 fuel surcharge, you have just earned $10 million dollars of revenue. But by raising fares $10, you have now lost 1/10 of your passengers (And it would probably be higher) so thats 100,000 X 200 a ticket = $20 million in lost revenue.
Believe me execs would love to raise ticket prices, but its the low cost carriers that are at fault!

That is interesting, since I kept reading that NWA was always the carrier that would not go along with the raises.
Secondly, plenty of LCCs have higher fares than the legacies, compare SWA vs the legacies on many routes, jetblue vs Song etc. So I am kind of perplexed by your statement?
