Default UAL adding XM radio to fleet

Washington Business Journal - 1:31 PM EST Thursday

United adds XM

Jeff Clabaugh, Staff Reporter

United Airlines becomes the third commercial carrier to offer XM Satellite Radio programming to its passengers.

United (NASDAQ: UAUA), which exited bankruptcy protection last month, says it will add up to 19 channels of XM programming to its in-flight audio programming. XM already has deals with AirTran and JetBlue to carry its programming.

Financial terms of the United deal weren't disclosed.

XM, which leads its rival Sirius in subscribers, has several other marketing deals with outside companies that make its programming available including DirecTV, Starbucks, Avis, National and Hyatt Hotels.

XM Satellite (NASDAQ: XMSR) posted a wider-than-expected loss for its latest quarter, despite reporting revenue that more than doubled.

United's going to add only up to 19 channels? What a crock. XM offers over 150.

Good move, United. 19 channels should be enough for most people. I'd imagine the rest of us will have to get by without Squizz, Boneyard, and The Joint.
