Agreed. At my former job, we parked at the blast fence at the the end of 13. On a hot day, it was amazing to watch how many MD's, 737's (especially the -200's), and even CRJ's chewed up almost all the runway before lifting off. Amazing that DAL used to ran the 767-400 as well as the L-1011 out of there.

At least the overrun of 13 has a bit of an incline to it. You'd get a little bit of a jump as you went into Flushing bay before going for a swim

Great job guys! If we're lucky, one of those ****** head reporters that b*tches about pilots being overpaid was on board and will put out a story with his new perspective.

Probably not. It will be spun that since it turned out OK, an engine failure MUST not really be that big of a deal and that it's not an emergency. Hence, pilots are overpaid to handle things that are routine and not that dire.

On another note, while watching one of the media outlets about the AA 757 at LAX, they were talking about how or why the FAA "ordered" the evacuation of the aircraft on the runway.

Runway 4 departure.

I checked the t/o perf numbers, the aircraft was at about 20,000lbs below MTOW doing a max power takeoff. OFF to ON was about 10min. Super job.

when one of its two rear-mounted engines failed shortly after takeoff

Thank heavens the forward mounted engines continued to run...

Great job by the crew.

Yesterday UAL 575 a 757 from ORD to SEA lost an engine...landed 1 or 2 planes behind me.

He must have really good ears to be able to differentiate between a turbine at takeoff thrust and one that's straining.
