The very short answer is no, they never came close to a settlement before the arbitration.

I provided a link below from a group called U Turn, which happens to be a group of West pilots. West refused to budge, hence 175 are going to be furloughed.

Be ready for this next article to be bashed by West pilots. It was the messenger that carried the bad news, they tried to do away with U Turn opinions and will try again after this post.

U Turn - U Turd, we call it out here, are a couple of ex reps who were tossed out of office for incompetence and a couple of others who have never done one positive thing for the AWA pilots group.
You can always find a couple of idiots to throw handgrenades. The real trick is finding someone that would put things back together.
There was never any movement from the East on DOH. That was during negotiations, that was during the arbitration, that was after Nic was out and Prater was trying everything he could to placate the East. Prater wanted us to cave on the DOH issue and the issue of permanent, one way (i.e. can't bid out of PHX) fences came up. We said NFW, we had an award that followed ALPA merger policy, was based on relative seniority, and was ALPA Policy. Again, the East refused to entertain anything other than DOH.
U Turd would have been the first to fry our negotiators and our MEC if we had agreed to fences without anything to show for the time and expense of working through the Joint Negotiations and the seniority negotiations. We put off section 6 contract negotiations because we thought the East would negotiate in good faith. Big mistake there, expecting the East to do anything in good faith.

Here we go again....another thread about East vs West at US Airways.
After reading this entire thread, I'm starting to understand why lawyers have to decide disputes between pilots.
