Oil costs up again

Wow, oil is back on the rise -- big time. Will be interesting to see how this is viewed by the aviation world. Standby for government bailout of airlines?

I wouldn't be so sure. There is not a lot of love left to give from the taxpayer since they went on the hook for $1 trillion last week. This all stems from the fact that to fund the bailout they have to devalue the dollar by printing more of it. Since oil is based on dollars, oil is rising again because the dollar is going down. In our haste, I think the regulators forgot the time honored law of "unintended consequences". Standby for the ride. I would bet whether the dems or reps are in charge that this is how cabotage will be permitted.

probably won't matter, long as the dollar is low, all the foreigners will just buy us cheap anyway. The great american lager won't even be american for much longer.

I'm not turning this into a political post but if you think Obama would standby on the sidelines if UAL were to get into trouble you are mistaken. If the government doesn't re-regulate the industry, do you think he would just sit by and let UAL, his hometown airline, and the tens of thousands of jobs disappear or would he let Lufthansa come in with a bail out? It won't matter whose in charge. If things get dire, its either that or let airlines fail. I'm not a proponent of cabotage but I think that's how it will come to pass.
