Does a type rating hold real value?

I have to go back to flying the A320 as an F/O. Having been on it before I can do a 2 week requal or 4 week requal. The 4 week will give me a type rating that I don't currently have (but do on 767).

My question: What is the value of a type rating. If I have to go to another airline would they pick the type rated guy first????

Thanks

Kelly

I don't know about the USA, but if you have to look overseas for work it's very important.

Good question. It depends on the airline, (SWA for example requires the 737) and whether you have experience in the airplane. Most airlines, I think, will place more emphasis on a type rating if you have flight time in the aircraft, versus going to a school just to get the type.

Personally, I have ten type ratings listed on my ATP. Did I get hired because I was typed in one of the fleet types at my employer? I don't know, but I'm sure it did not hurt.

Why would you NOT want a free type rating?

I hate the idea of living a hotel for 2 additional weeks unless I'm getting something of real value.

Does a type rating mean I can legally fly as Captain??

Thanks for any help

In this industry its always possible that you may be looking for a job in the future. The type with time in the a/c would mean a lot at that point.

YES, mabye. Depending on the type of operation and after taking a PIC check.

Yes it does. And its huge overseas...should it ever come to that. Go for it.

Is it worth two weeks of your life? Maybe...if you are open to going overseas in search of work and suspect that you might need to someday.

I'm sorry but how can you have a type on the 767 and not know the answer to this? 2 weeks it's cheap insurance to keep a door open just in case.
