There was a very helpful post on the ualmec web board on how a furloughed pilot could cash out their PDAP without penalty. Since mine has only about $4500 left I thought I would take it out and use it to live.

Can anyone PM me if they know how to do this or whom to contact?

You can contact your previous rep, but I would recomend contacting the Furlough coordinator. You can also click on the Furloughed Pilots link on the ALPA crewroom page. You will have someone there to help you out and answer questions.

Why did they pull the plug on the UAL forum? Don't you still have access to the open forum side of the ALPA message board?

Fear. Pure and simple. They have screwed this up so badly they just don't want the inevitable groundswell of calls for their collective heads. Has NOTHING to do with what they claim - that pilots will do "stupid" things like organize "sick-outs' and the like. Total baloney. They are simply afraid of the reaction of the pilots to the MEC and officers totally eliminating ANY leverage we MIGHT have had going into Section Six negotiations. Utter disaster and complete lack of leadership and oversight.

Right now there is no open forum of any kind. There are some platforms out there and I thought someone was working on a new forum outside the oversight and influence of the MEC, but I haven't heard anything about it lately.

we need to think of a good name for it though so i can run it by my people--- i think it can be done free or maybe for a small fee , like maybe $5 initally until it covers the majority of the costs, then free? thoughts, let me know?

Give me two things:

Name:
the cost will be shared and divided, then be free once the major stuff is paid for
what features are most important in the creating of the board? ( i think this might be cost effective-- more options, means more space, means more money)

Let me know and I'd be happy to help! I was communications chairman at UAL when we switched from Compuserve to the platform that is similar to this. A site like this would cost about $150 a month plus setup costs. I think we can get one going for a lot less or even free - maybe through google or yahoo. They seem to have a lot of these type message boards. Then it is a matter of getting the word out. I can help with that - have plenty of freinds that can help spread the word through e-mail. There is no reason to be held hostage by an MEC that is in bunker mentality. Communication still needs to flow!

They're stupid if they think shutting down the UAL side of the ALPA forum will change anything. Besides the numerous free forums available such as this one, talkairline, yahoo groups, etc, many pilots have the technology and webspace to set up their own. Let's not forget the mainside of the ALPA message board is still open. WebBoard -

Pardon me for saying so, but it sounds like the UAL MEC doesn't understand they are creating a worse problem for themselves by closing down the forum since they've now lost control of the situation. By keeping the UAL forum open, they'd at least have a shot at mitigating and observing any issues and problems. Now they won't have a clue as to what is happening under their nose. Stupid.

I am curious how the current MEC can continue under to a recognized voice of the pilots after the lawsuit. After reading the court ruling I am ashamed of the leadership we have at the MEC. Their credibility has been ruined and they have painted the pilot group into a corner with their blind leadership.

Just more good news for the pilots of UAL!
