Is it really the future of "good" jobs in aviation? What happens when new shipping companies open and start offering lower shipping costs to its paying customers? The pilots are going to have to take the burden of the cost. EDIK Fly commercial, like Southwest. They KNOW how to conduct business.

You don't really believe what you just wrote, do you (regarding SWA vs freight)?

I went to one of those 737 schools in the hopes of meeting some folks from SWA, but then I got hired at Brown. No regrets. I gladly gave up the $7k or so to go fly any airplane in the UPS fleet, all over the world. Multiple legs, overnights at LaQuintas and Holiday Inn Selects was not the path I really wanted. I am very happy now. Some are saying there are hot chicks at SWA, well they all taste the same. However, from Australia to Hawaii to London to Cologne to Dubai to Bombay to Oslo, etc, etc there are tons of very, very hot chicks, and believe me nothing in this country can compare, except for the ones in Playboy.

Hey guys,

I would love to work for either. Both have been stable (SWA should get credit for making money for the past 25yrs or so). For the next 5-10years UPS and FedEx will be the highest paid in the airline industry. My point is both are great companies.

I have nothing against SWA. I think in the world of pax carriers they have the best business model, great people, etc. However, 2 numbers come to mind:

$61 million
$975 million

For those not in the know these were the first quarter net incomes at SWA and UPS. Not even close. I'm sure FDX is a similar story.

Default Freight Vs. Swa

Hey Edik--

Thanks for being a good sport. Just messin with ya.

OK, here's my breakdown in 30 seconds or less:

1) If you can handle night flying go with the freight job. Absolutely no comparison as to job security and variety of planes/destinations/profitability/size of your paycheck etc. I agree with
UPSav8r and brown cow. I'd fly cargo but I'm a wimp.

2) The few female flight attendants left under age 83 are not that hot. Plus if you look at them cross eyed, you're fired.

3) Typical SWA schedule is 12 days on, 90 trips for pay (102.5 hours) and 72-75 hours of block of which you will under fly by about 3 hours. Third year F/O makes $100k/year easily and a 12 year capt. makes $185k/year easily.

4) It's a great place to work and the culture is not rah rah, sis boom bah like people say.

S.B.
