Ah, back to the days when Air France served wine on the flight deck.
Sad to hear a 62 year old ex-Marine, an FO for Jet Airlines, was the target here. That's a tough position to be in - I can only hope that he had a great career in the US till 60, cashed out his retirement, and then choose to continue to fly, rather than needing to keep going b/c he, like most others, lost either his job or his retirement though the bankruptcies and financial difficulties most of our employers have seen in the last decade. It's a tough industry to be in right now, and its unfortunate to see something like this; both for the individual involved, as well as the image it brings to our profession. |
Crew socializing off duty
>>had been partying with younger members of the crew the night previous.<<
Nearly unheard of with the crews I work with. Wondering if JetAirways pilots have a alcohol abuse program..... |
Great another Professional Pilot making us all look like drunks. While at the airline I could not go a week without some passenger asking if we had been drinking. Lock him up there is no excuse for that period.

I was too drunk to notice the typo. Thanks, Old Milwaukee Lite! |
Stupid, but I don't feel sorry for him. Many pilots have partied too hard and took the manly way out "Hi, Scheduling? I'm sick. Maybe I'll feel better tomorrow" <click>. Any pilot who drinks and flies will not have my sympathy. Too bad those younger crew members didn't help him do the right thing.

From another online story, the fact that Heathrow's version of the TSA is looking at crews more thoroughly than normal (just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they're not out to get you): Every year, civil aviation authorities here step up surveillance to prevent drunken flying — invariably, strict checks find some pilots 'on a high' on ground itself. |
