An American Airlines plane bound for Chicago made a safe emergency landing at Kennedy Airport this morning after the pilot reported "engine trouble," officials said.
American Airlines Flight 309 took off from LaGuardia Airport just before 8 a.m., but returned to John F. Kennedy International Airport about 15 minutes into the flight when the pilot reported a problem in the right engine of the MD-80 aircraft.
The Port Authority said there were reports of falling debris from the plane on 123rd Street in Jamaica, Queens.
No injuries were reported.
There were 88 passengers and five crew members on board, according to AA spokesperson Mary Frances Fagan. She said mechanics are investigating what caused the flight to be diverted back to the city.
