Airlines, after shouldering record jet fuel prices quarter after quarter, are pushing through steeper-than-usual fare hikes this summer in hopes of riding a wave of wanderlust to their first profit in years.

Yea no, joke RT from LA to FLL on WN was $400 in june. How are the mountain folk going to afford those prices flying wn?? Out of all the airlines that I searched, Airtran and AA seemed like they still have cheaper prices. Although with Airtran you had to take a tour of the U.S to finally arrive at your destination.

Not everyone can or needs to fly. You pay for the privledge to get to your destination much faster. If you cant afford it.....DRIVE! The airlines have become the "Greyhound of the Skies"!

Won't Work
This won't work. There are still plenty of LCCs eager to undercut any airline that tries to greatly ramp up fares. Believe me, the relentless downward pressure on crew compensation will continue because the cheap ticket is by no means going away -- if anything, it's buiding up another head of steam.
