The buses have better performance at the higher airport elevations supposedly.

I thought the -90's did ok in SLC, though? It makes sense why they're planning on moving them if the -90's are going out weight restricted in SLC.

I dont know anything about the md90 but from what i have been told the airbus's perform better, whatever that means. The bus can pretty much go anywhere out of SLC without restrictions though.

Its going to be interesting to see how they shuffle things around.

Very popular rumor. A new base in DFW runs a close second.

Powerball has a lot better odds.

What about rumors of a BOS base? Enough flying to support one?

The 90's can take off at Max Gross from SLC - its a range issue. The 90's cannot make the east come from SLC, the bus can. In two years of flying the 90 the farthest east that I went was CLE. The 90's can, however, make both coasts from MSP. So by switching the bases you can now cover both casts from SLC and MSP. This move actually makes sense so it probably won't happen - after all we can just throw more RJ's into both bases.

The new Delta has many hubs, which means from many given cities, you serve up to 8 cities. That could be a potential mini-base. How do you Delta pilots feel about multiple mini-bases? I'm sure there are many advantages and disadvantages, but I'd like to know what the general consensus is amongst your pilot group.

At a pilot meeting with upper mgmt two months ago, that question was asked.

They said that hotels are cheap in BOS for Delta, so even if there are a lot of crews laying over, it's not cost effective to have a base. Because Delta (and now former NW) had a base there before, the question gets asked a lot.

How long is the drive from BOS to New York?

We have a LOT of Boston commuters in New York. Nearly all of them take the Shuttle to work; hourly service, and seats are generally available. No need to drive.

Speaking of hotels, where is the BOS hotel? Us northies are out near the airport but it's just a quick train ride up to Quincy Market. Not that I would have any idea where the Black Rose is.

And USAir has shuttle service to LGA 30 minutes before/after ours, so there are plenty of seats to/from LGA.

Get to LGA, share a $20 cab with 3 other folks from the flight - $5 plus tip to get to work.
