Depending on how the bid goes down you might get to stay on that out in LAX. If not you can bid the DC-9! I think that the 9 will make all us love the 88. Just think, No alt hold and no fms/AT etc. NO WAY!

All I'm saying is "bring on the C-series, quickly!"
That being said, the 9 prob isn't too preflight intensive. Throw a few switches, pull out your map and go. I'll happily fly that (or any plane for that matter) any day as long as my paycheck still says Delta. |

Map? I just memorized the VORS and radials when I was in my 20's, has anything changed? |

Map? I just memorized the VORS and radials when I was in my 20's, has anything changed? I would take a left seat in the 9 anywhere in the system. Now it would have to be ATL or MEM in the right! For now I am senior enough not to have to worry about that. Heck the e-120 at least had alt hold. |

We don't! We just wait for ATC to ask us where we are going, give them a VOR on the flight plan, then they just give us a heading! Eventally we find the airport! ;) :D
ATL APP: Northwest 123 are you equipped to take direct ERLIN? NWA123: Negative Sir, we're bankrupt Best answer I've ever heard on the radio! |

Heck the e-120 at least had alt hold. She doesn't have auto level off. You have to level off with the vertical speed wheel. She does have altitude hold though. It helps a little. The FO has to use the turn knob, as his/her heading bug will not command the AP. It's good for the brain.:D |

I don't know what to say about you guys "dissin'" my mighty DC-9. It's a great airplane. You will get used to it. :D

No kidding!
I told my wife tonight at dinner that my financial goals are now simply off the table. We'll be fine, nobody is going to starve. Life is going to be an adventure like it was in our 20's. We had a ton of fun then. |

We had a ton of fun then. As for all the DC-9 angst from the last few pages.... I just don't understand all the angst. I fly the -9, I commute on the -88. I'll take the -9 every time. It's kind of like dating (back in the days we were all single). The -88 wows you right off the bat with all the jewelry and sophistication. After a few dates, you see through all the smoke and mirrors and realize that, despite the fact you thought you were getting a prom queen, you ended up with a broken-down, working-class single mom with a meth addiction. As for the -9, there's no pretense. You know from day one that you're riding a middle-aged, broken-down *****. At first, it'll disgust you a little bit, but after a while you'll learn to love it. She's a good girl, and she appreciates a man who knows how to drive her. You guys dreading the -9... I dare say you'll really appreciate flying it.... despite losing 10 pounds to sweat in the summer and being doused with glycol in the winter. If Smiling Bob flew the -9, he wouldn't need any mail-order help...We brew testosterone here... End of the day, it's an airplane, and a very enjoyable one to fly under mainline wages and workrules. Enjoy it while it lasts. It'll be negotiated away for a few bucks and the "greater financial health of the company" before you know it. |

No kidding...then, it'll be replaced by E-170/190s, right? From the regional/code-sharing partner of your choice.

Nothing was traded for the no hats...it couldn't be enforced. Things get traded when you hear the words..."long term this will be better for you" |

Map? I just memorized the VORS and radials when I was in my 20's, has anything changed? The VOR's have names, so when you dial in the freguency (yes, you physically have to do it) the DME will tell you how far away you are from the VOR. Try it on the 767/757. Push that "Auto" button to "Man" and work it baby!!! :D |

If you like to fly, you will love the DC-9. You have to make the airplane go when you want it to go. If you like to be flown around, you will hate the DC-9. The only thing "Auto" on it are the spoilers. (The autopilot isn't even really "auto.") For me, it's a fun airplane and I like the face the younger jumpseaters have when they ride up front for the first time. One word: AWE. (Or, is that fear?) :D |

See, that's the reason they give us DC9 SIC type flying the 88 in the first place! Mgmt knew most of us would fly one someday:)
Seriously, do you guys think they can get away with a short course from 88 to dc9? I highly doubt it... System's relatively similar, but the buttons, oh boy. The only thing we won't need new training sadly, is the FMS. On FI, someone mentions opening a LAX dc9 base? ACL?? anyone? It brings tears of joy in my eye... |
