UAL Next Midwest

Hate to say it but looking at Sep's Load numbers, mainline flying is down about 6% while "regional affiliates" are UP over 15%. UAL has over 1000 pilots on furlough, are parking mainline aircraft and outsourcing the flying to the regionals. Is being bought by Republic the final dagger? What can they do to stop the craziness? They tried a sickout (kinda) and unsuccessfully tried to remove the incompetent CEO.

Lock down some scope maybe? Take back the 70 seat flying? Limit regional a/c numbers? Grow some?

All great ideas to me.

And parking 100 737's probably would not decrease the numbers would it.....UAL is not even close to Midwest.

No, but you're getting there. We started parking our MD-80's and were being told the reason for doing so was that they were due for heavy checks and the company didn't want to put the money into them. The truth was that they had been scheming all along to replace us all. Sounds like it is headed that way at United. It's all ready started at Delta and American is not far behind.

Or perhaps UAL is being 'right sized' to merge with CAL, who has a considerable amount of.........drumroll..........737's!!!!!

Could be. At any rate, all majors need to re-write their scope to make sure it is fail safe against the likes of sleazy carriers like Republic.

acl65pilot 10-06-2009 06:09 AM

Well lets put it this way, if UAUA, AMR, DAL or CAL cave one iota on scope the rest will follow. That is unless we get people that are willing to say no!

It all starts with one.

The nice thing today is most pilots see this career as raped and pilliaged and are willing to fight harder then in years past. Basically if there is one more cut or relaxation of scope, most will feel their job is gone and will move on. That give many the extra motivation they need to fight harder than in years past. The mentality has changed.

Fact is that this industry is fighting really hard for lower labor costs. It is trending that way. We can fight that and make the executives come up with a business plan that charges for the services provided, or we can continue to prove to them that, YES the cheaper tickets can keep coming out of the employees bank accounts. The choice is yours. Do not fool yourself in to anything else.

Just like Midwest, poor mgmt, angry bitter crews, poor ticket sales, etc. Then of course, UA releasing scope for their own greedy self preservation has lead us to where we are today. But, lets just blame RAH it's easier. Rat, even my 7 & 8 year olds accept more responsiblity then you. On occasion, I do find them blaming everyone else instead of placing the blame where it belongs, but they are only 7 & 8. What's your excuse for acting like a child? You need help.

zoooropa 10-06-2009 07:35 AM

Scope is meaningless

The scope battle(s) have been fought, and labor lost.

When RAH prevailed in the YX codeshare grievance, the floodgates were officially opened.

Domestic narrow-body flying is doomed and the elusive "legacy" pilot position is going to become even more sacred.
