What 600 million did you hand over or are you talking about paycuts?

The AAA pilot group gave through the nose to get Usairways to where they are now, profitability. The new company owes them more than any other entity involved, including management. The America West pilot group did one hell of a job to return to profitability post 9/11 and will probably suffer some diminished career expectation, seniority wise, but gain wide-body int'l opportunities. The greatest benefit is the synergy of the combined companies, this will become very apparent if the Bush administration pushes this foreign ownership issue. I was once a AAA pilot and can honestly say that they are the finest pilot group I've ever experienced. I wish both groups godspeed. Most of my fellow furloughed, self included, have found other gainful employment and probably not be returning to the company, however our spilled blood qualifies us for more consideration than any poolie.
On another note, I've always suspected that BT suffers from "wanted to fly pax, but was rejected" syndrome. This is why he post so many inflammatory remarks about pax pilot issues. Should be counting his money, "Open Skies" is gonna get you! No disrespect to the vast majority of professional UPS drivers and good luck to the AWA poolies.

Open skies would be one of the best things that could happen to the IPA/UPS pilot group. It would open up vast oppurtunities in europe that we are currently not able to fly. Bring it on!!!!!!!

It would be a great opportunity for UPS, not you. Open skies works both ways BT. Gotta lot of faith in management. Why would they pay someone like you to fly when they could have China Southern do it for 1/4 the amount? Your scope means as much as our pensions. Silly to think that the "Global Economy" won't hurt us all. Get some therapy before they cut your benefits!

Read the following USAir was merged into AWA with AWA taking USAirs name. Links for reference.

1.1 The Merger. Upon the terms and subject to the conditions set forth in this Agreement, and in accordance with the Delaware General Corporation Law (the “DGCL”), at the Effective Time (as defined in Section 1.3) Merger Sub shall be merged with and into West and the separate corporate existence of Merger Sub shall thereupon cease. West shall be the surviving corporation in the Merger (sometimes hereinafter referred to as the “Surviving Corporation”), and the separate corporate existence of West, with all its rights, privileges, immunities, powers and franchises, shall continue unaffected by the Merger in accordance with the DGCL.

Although the merger is structured such that America West will become a wholly owned subsidiary of US Airways Group at closing, America West will be treated as the acquiring company for accounting purposes under SFAS No. 141,“Business combinations,” due to the following factors: (1) America West’s stockholders are expected to own approximately 37% of New US Airways Group common stock outstanding immediately following the merger as compared to certain former US Airways Group creditors who will hold approximately 12% (these percentages
reflect certain assumptions concerning the likely exchange of certain convertible debt and the impact of certain securities that are dilutive at the per share purchase price paid by the equity investors); (2) America West will receive a larger number of designees to the Reorganized Debtors’ board of directors; and (3) America West’s current Chairman and Chief Executive Officer will serve as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Reorganized Debtors following the merger.

Being cocky is one thing. Being uniformed and blind is another. Don't be naive BrownTail. Yes open skies would give both UPS and FedEx tremendous growth opportunities, however, Your (UPS's) SCOPE Policy....is wosre than ours and we have precious little protective language, especially concerning INTL flying ( outside of the contiguous 48). So while there might be more Brown airplanes flying intra Europe or Intra Asia.....that doesn't necessarily translate into UPS seniority list pilots flying them in those areas............We have a Pilot domicle in the Philippines.
Currently our Pilots are flying the freight. But even the ALPA attornies have said it is a Grey area when it comes to the legal protections for them in accordance with the RLA out side the US borders. Do not expect the current Bush Administration to AID in any labor disputes concerning outsourcing of US Jobs.....especially Pilots!

I remember in the early 90's when the USAir thought that the mini merger with British Airways was going to be a good thing............It turned out that USAir (i.e. it's pilots) lost 3 very profitable London routes (Slots to Heathrow purchased from TWA). The alliance collapsed when BA got what they wanted and then formed their alliance with AMR.
Be very careful what you wish for. Open skies and foreign ownership will not be good thing for US pilots in the long run.
