Sorry, guys. The airline industry may have just had one of the final nails. The government regulation, TSA, politically correct screening, lack of a real State Department are at fault. The problem is that those same just listed will just make it harder to fly for the non-criminals. If you have to get to the airport 6 hours prior, and you are miserable from showing up until you finally get your bags (which still keep getting robbed by the workers that are legally required to have access to the contents), travel that isn't absolutely essential is going to continue to disappear.

So were these new rules (no getting up/no electronic devices for last hour) imposed on all US flights, or just international inbounds? I worked 2 domestic legs (one from LGA,) and we didn't hear a peep about new procedures. When did they go into effect?

I love how TSA is trying to be all sneaky on this one - not telling anyone what the new rules are to "keep them on their toes." I've tried finding info on it via our "secure channels" so I know what to expect when I show up to work tomorrow, and I can't find bumpkis.

That no getting up for to use the bathroom rule is going to be real popular, especially when you have weather in ATL. 1.5 hour taxi plus a 45 minute flight to CHS = no bathrooms for 2:15. Didn't the DOT just tell us we can't deny pax the usage of bathroom if we're stuck for over 3 hours? All I know is we're gonna have a lot of wet seats!

Check your company's bulletins. Our company has already put the info out.

We were notified of this new "security directive" on our release today. So now we're "holding the passengers hostage" at the govt's direction, and then the passengers can sue us. Great, really great. I guess we should essentially throw up a white flag and tell all our "middle eastern friends" that we surrender and that they won. The TSA has become a real "COWARD" office in my opinion. If they're so worried about crap like this idiot, then they need to shut ALL the airlines down and be done with it. But nickel and diming all the passengers to death with STUPID rules is just ridiculous. I asked our dispatcher what we were supposed to do if someone stood up and opened an overhead during the last hour..........his answer? "Don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger". Fine.........I guess we'll have security standing by to arrest thirty passengers on each flight as they go to store their computers in the overhead. Also, NO passenger is allowed to have ANYTHING on their laps for the last hour? I guess lap-children are no longer allowed? Yep, brilliant, real brilliant. Our finest brains making idiotic rules to protect who????? Funny thing is though, is that this directive is "not releasable" to the general public. So, being the "stupid" person I am, I asked a simple question to my company: "just how do the passengers know what they can and can't do?" So far, no answer. Pretty sad, isn't it? :rolleyes:

Not sure what you are getting at here - didn't Congress establish the TSA over Bush administration objections? I recall some kind of fight over the TSA establishment so I'm not sure its fair to blame this all on GW.

I guess if the flight attenedant calls up in the last hour of flight and says "someone has to go to the bathroom, what should I do?" My suggestion to the captain will be "let them pee in the seat, then write up the seat at the outstation." Hopefully, after several hundred replacement seats are flown to outstations and several hundred flights are delayed/canceled, some common sense will prevail. My guess is that most captains will employ the "if they gotta go, they gotta go" rule.

Oh, and I checked out Bulletins, still nothing. When did this come out? Our last domestic leg left at about 11am est.

Easy, turn around and put yourself greater than 1 hour from arrival.

Why don't we ground all aircraft throughout the U.S and also not allow any aircraft to operate within U.S airspace.

There you go, problem solved on our end.

On a side note : If legislation in this country is going to take place with every incident, to create a "safer" environment for everyone, then eventually the QOL will be greater, and government less oppresive in countries labeled as the "enemy".

Confident the "terrorists" are doing quite well with their goals.

Now back to making life miserable for everyone.

Well...got an e-mail from Flight Ops with the new bulletin. Make sure you turn on that seatbelt sign one hour prior to arrival (coming from any international destination).
Short flights like Nassau to Miami for need have the seatbelt sign on for the duration of the flight with no passengers getting up.
Unbelievable...
