One snotty East captain said that for a CLT-bound flight from PHX, and another (West) pilot told him to shut up, and use the correct callsign, or he wouldn't get clearance to fly.
I wonder what the penalties are, if any, if a Northwest captain used the NWA callsign on purpose, when the jet is in NW colors. I'd sure love to hear that callsign over the radios again. I also wonder what it's like in MSP or DTW, to have the DC-9 train in Delta colors, instead of NW colors. Atlanta must look even better with the RJ trains darting around.

(Posted from a place where I watch a sea of Canyon Blue tails and tails with blue and red flags dart around.)

For all the stupid, appaling stuff I've seen USAPA do, here is at least one guy that has the merit of being both funny of original. My compliments!

Yes

This is good clean fun. I remember early in my career flying with a "legend in his own mind" type. USair and Piedmont were nose to nose waiting for us to exit the ramp so they could both access their respective parking gates. We were neither. The merger between the two had just been announced. Captain genius keyed the mike as we taxied between them and said, "Sure can't wait to get based in Charlotte."

That's when the fight started...

Wolfie, you sure do a lot of wondering for someone who purports themselves to be a US Airways 757 CA from the West, based in PHX.

I am always struck by the amount of flights from PHX as a whole to Las Vegas. "Southwest 253 cleared to LAS", then a few seconds later "Cactus 50 cleared to LAS"..it never ends.

Again, you are exposed as a fraud! As a CA, there would be no reason for you to spend a great deal of time on the clearance delivery frequency listening to all the flights getting clearance to LAS. Secondly, US has ACARS so the number of times that Cactus needs to get clearance over the radio would be few and far between.

When us TWA guys had to start using the American call sign AA printed up thousand of "sticky notes" ! They were piled from floor to ceiling in ops.

On the top it stated: Use AA Call Sign! In the middle: "AMERICAN" Just below:
"_____________" where you'd write the flight number.

I grabbed enough of them that it lasted me till I retired in May 2007!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I thought I read one of those Urban Legends somewhere with an exchange between Center and an AA flight.

"American XXX, turn left heading 240."
(nada)
"American XXX, turn left heading 240."
(silence)
"American XXX, Center?"
(still nothing)
"American XXX, would it help if I called you TWA?"

Curious...

Greetings,

So which Delta flight numbers are Northwest flights? Are the four-digit flight numbers starting with the number "2" Northwest operated flights? I heard some dude on the radio yesterday at PHX and you could tell he was trying to get used to saying "Delta" preceding the flight number. I didn't get to see what equipment it was so I wasn't able to know for sure. Anybody know?

In the first couple of days after our switchover that would have been entirely possible!

Anybody who has gone through a change of call sign would tell you it's not as easy as you would think. I had used "TWA" for 14 years at the time of our switchover.

glasspilot 02-07-2010 05:39 AM

I have a friend NWA who just switched to "Delta" after saying North West for 23 years! (I wonder if Delta printed up Sticky Notes for them?)
