What you perceive as "*****ing themselves out" might just be the difference between their kids having braces or not. It might even be the difference between them selling/not selling back their vacation. It might be the difference between making/not making their mortgage payment on that house they bought at the top of the market.. which.. if they sold right now... they would owe more than it's worth. Those "few lousy bucks" might mean all the difference in the world to them and maybe they cannot afford NOT to pick up flying. Be careful how you throw rocks at someone before you are in their shoes.

I would have absolutely no problem with this at all. But it needs to be in the contract.

Please.....can we just "re-title" the thread??

Back on topic. SWA will get 10 new -700's this year. Unknown number of -300's being retired. Block hours supposedly increasing in May and June to near the level they were when we stopped hiring two years ago.

The 'wildcard' is if those will be -700s or -800s.

I heard 7 737's in 2011. Is 11 the latest number?

MatthewAMEL 02-15-2010 04:58 PM

I recall that from the Raymond James conference, but it may have changed. Who can keep track around here anymore?

JetPiedmont 02-15-2010 05:14 PM

I like 11 better than 7 anyway, but what date was the RJ conference?

Sorry to hijack the thread again, but TS are you for real? The difference between one on furlough and one gainfully employed making a house payment and being able to afford braces for his teenager is quite obvious!

Let me explain it to you really sloooooow! It doesn't matter if the contract says you can do it or not. If you have fellow pilot (your company) on furlough, YOU CAN influence your company to do what is necessary to bring them back! If you approach them (via your union) and indicate that you are willing to take less and therefore expedite their return you have now brought back those who truly cannot afford their mortgage and braces for their children. YOU might have to make do with a little less!

I will ask the question differently. After almost 1500 posts in 2 years are you for real? The right thing to do doesn't have to be in the CONTRACT!

Oscar, How goes it? For the record, I think he's for real. Good luck with this one as I don't think he's a team player? You know the kind that can't find the "we" in "I".

Really? Tell you daughter she can't have braces because you are "doing the right thing".

I know very well how things work, but when you say "approach your company" it sounds much like a negotiation stance. Good.. I agree that that is a great way to do it. But when you show your other face, all you show is borderline thuggery towards your other fellow pilots. Which is it? Negotiate in good faith, or throw blanket parties for other pilots. Oh, and since it appears that you are a SWA pilot, what do you know about any of this anyway? I have been living on FO wages since 2001, so don't lecture me about doing with less. I have lived well within my means since 1991. I'm debt free... are you?

Oh.. and Milpilot... nevermind. You don't know the first thing about me, besides, you completely miss the point.

Interesting debate this has turned into. I am sure you will find many opinions on both sides of the fence. However the example of the mortgage and braces is a very poor one.

If the only way you can make your mortgage payment and put braces on your kids teeth is to pick up open time and max out then "you" are living way beyond your means.

We have seen first hand what happens to people living beyond their means this past couple years.
