Default US Air at LAS

Just curious if US Air had a base at LAS with a terminal and closed it? (Believe it was America West's or something) If so is there an empty flight ops section and terminal area there, or did someone move in?

Yes, America West had a LAS base. It closed as of March 1st. We had a small crew room under what used to be B3. The old AWA ops under the low B gates was moved over to the A gates after the merger. We are now mostly in the A gates for the few remaining flights we have out of LAS.

We went from 150 flights/day at AWA out of LAS to about 25 now. Pretty sad. We ruled the night banks out of LAS for a long time and we had a lot of day service to the West coast and PHX. We used to have 12 flights a day between PHX and LAS. We even ran the 747 twice a day between PHX and LAS (the flights went on to HNL and JFK and return).

Ah yes... I remember that little crew room under B3.

I also remember the red eyes I flew to the east coast and hops to the west coast. During those days, and evenings the conga line for departure would be a bunch of HP 737s with a smattering or two of the 757 and a whale.
