Heh, yeah, would've much rather gone westbound except flights were packed across the Pacific (this was during Spring Break). MSP-AMS-SVO-HAN routing was wide open...would've worked out great if the Aeroflot agents had accepted our ZED tickets right away instead of passing them around and making phone calls for a full hour before deciding to accept them about 3 minutes after the door closed.

Original trip, which I hope to still make a go of sometime soon, was Hanoi-Halong Bay-Cat Ba-Ho Chi Minh-Mekong Delta-Phu Quoc-SGN-Home.

Sounds like the full itinerary. We played an amazing round of golf in Danang right around some old gun emplacements. Eeery how just a few decades ago many Americans and Vietkong were losing their lives there, now there is world class resorts, with a casino going up.
Funny thing is after spending three days in Hanoi, it's as capitilistic (everyone owns a shop or has something for sale) as any asian city plus some. Also, a moped can be used as a cargo delivery truck quite efficiently.
Amazing to think that the was was between capitalism and communism because although the Vietkong won the war, capitalism rules the day in Vietnam more than ever.
I realize they officially renounced communism a couple decades ago, but other than the state owning a majority of the utilities, it's game on in Vietnam.

Jungle,
How do you have any inkling on the actual loads of an Aeroflot flight is anyway? Just curious, as whenever I have used a ZED fare, it always seems like a shot in the dark.

Thanks for the advice guys. I appreciate it.

Planning on using a ZED fare on Aeroflot from SVO to LED and I'm also wondering about the loads. Is there anyway to check or is it just a guess? There are a bunch of flights all day long so I'm thinking it should be okay but it would nice to have a way to check.

Saw a bunch of open fare buckets on seatcounter.com. For confirmation I called around Aeroflot's US offices until I finally found someone who could both speak passable english and look up loads. It took 10 or 15 phone calls. The Aeroflot agents in Amsterdam were very good, they issued our boarding passes right away and looked up loads to confirm that SVO-HAN was wide open. I was pretty leery about going through SVO, the helpfulness of the AMS Aeroflot people lulled me into going for it. I think the competence of the Dutch rubbed off on them.
