This is going to be interesting to watch, that is for sure. I hope they figure out a way to make it fair for all players. As usual, somebody won't be happy in the end.

Yep. Usually the junior guys at both ends.......

I agree.........CAL/UAL had to give up slots at EWR to make SWA "more equal" on the playing field. I'd be surprised if CAL management doesn't go back to the DOJ/DOT and demand they want the slots back due to the backdooring that just occurred. Nothing like being required to give your competitors marketshare to "even things out", and then finding out you've just been hoodwinked. Will be interesting to see how things pan out.

The Union here at AirTran found out this morning about the deal, so I can say, "no" there is no pre-existing SLI agreement.

Good News for SWA Poolies

On the company website right under Gary's release: VP of Ops, Mike Van de Ven said we are hiring 150-200 NEW pilots in 2011; they will be on the line by MAR 11. That means January classes.

Stop the rumors, SWA will take care of her poolies!!!

Not without gates. Hartsfield is pretty full already.

I'm not so sure this merger isn't a good thing for Delta.
Southwest continues morphing into an old-fashioned, conventional "major" airline.
Industry consolidation and more rational pricing helps everyone.

There are no 30 minute turns in ATL. It ain't Lubbock.

New gates are coming with the opening of the new terminal next year.

For the Poolies

One Correction - Prolly classes in Feb to join the line by Mar, or maybe late Jan.

LUV was to get a few gates at the new terminal next year, but the contracts was not inked to my knowledge so that may change.

Not surprised by this at all. I expect a few more players to go after smaller carriers after this announcement as well.

Maybe SWA can buy DAL. We'd finaly get decent pay!
