Default Narita Transit?

Hi everyone,

Just sitting here two days prior to heading to S.E Asia via NRT and having PTSD flasbacks to trying to get through NRT international transit as a jumpseater. Last time I went through, I somehow managed to just show my crew badge to the security check point agent who had no idea who I was with since my carrier does not serve NRT. He gave me a bit of fuss for a boarding pass, before I managed to slip through to the other side. Needless to say, I feel that was sheer luck were as a few months later coming back to the states via NRT, I checked in at the ticket counter and then I was practically accosted by the primary security agents for the better part of 15 minutes with jumpseat documents in hand.

Since I have never had an issue OMCing on the outbound USA-NRT flights, I am considering buying a ZED on UA, list for just the NRT-SIN flight before leaving the USA. Upon arriving in at LAX, check for the NRT-SIN sector to try and get some sort of departure management card to show NRT transit security. Once through and at the gate in NRT, I thought I would politely ask the gate agent to remove me from the standby list and put me on as an OMC. Has anyone else tried this or any other method that seems to work well?

Thanks for the help!
