Does a termination stop a career?

Does a termination stop a career?
Does a termination really stop a career? I "have a friend" who was terminated for not completing a dead head on a off line carrier. The friend asked for permission the night before and the answer was yes from CSch. however the policy for dropping did not exist but permission was granted. Long story short management "lost the tape" of the conversation and friend lost in arbitation?
So....What can friend do if interview approaches and really really wants job are they screwed? do they say the dreaded yes and throw fate to the wind. It seems to me that somewhere in the world a pilot got themselves fired in the right or the wrong, but did they move up and on or stop flying.
CRAP!!

There is hope
I know for a fact that over the past 8 years, many pilots have been fired from Trans States for absurd reasons and each pilot got a better job. Also, how well you are able to discuss the situation in the interview will make a difference in the outcome of the interview. Good luck to your friend!

My former company fired a guy because the FAA essentially ordered them to do so (because an examiner was ****ed off) ...our chief pilot turned around and arranged for the poor guy to be hired at another regional.
Sometimes companies just have to do what they have to do...and the other companies know this, so they assume that you are probably an all right person and that you have learned a lesson.
The only things that could be a real problem are serious and deliberate lapses of judgement like theft, fighting, insubordination, or substance abuse.
Also, if you had an attendance problem, you will want to go to your next interview with A) a reasonable explanation and B) a plan to keep it from happening again.

From what a friend of mine told me who was a CA here at 9E told me.. Everyone who has been fired from 9E has gone on to get a better flying job anyway... Some of the people who were fired from this place are even flying heavys today.....

Tell your friend there is life after death. Two good guys I know at Fedex were terminated and went on to fly. Both were honest about the circumstances of their terminations and were hired at other jobs. Both had to drop down in size for awhile and build a rep back up and are successful, although not flying for Fedex.

Hey Topper
Tell your friend not to worry. Most reputable carriers are savy to the reputation of many bottom feeder airlines such as the one your friend was fired from.
When he gets on with FED EX, UPS or Continental, he can send a note of thanks to his chief pilot for accelarting his career to the majors.
