Southwest - ATL
I know were early in the game on this, but as a new hire to WN, whats the over/under on them having an ATL base that a new hire guy could get into?
Or should I just wait for Delta to call?
Any guesses?

My magic 8-ball says try again later. Too hard to predict until there is some clarity on the SLI issues.

The SLI and joining of the companies will be a long process. For example, in the DAL?NWA merger, the merger was announced in Aprilish 2008, JCBA done in Mayish, SLI done in December 2008.
Then... procedures integrations took up most of 2009, and finally the first joint bid where everyone could bid to other categories wasn't until January 2010.
So, expect at a bare minimum something close to 2 years before actual cross bidding... and goodness knows if fences are involved (which they may very well be)

Let me see if I understand this correctly? You are already working for SWA? But you want to be based in ATL? But if you can't be based in ATL soon, you will wait for Delta to call? Do I understand this correctly? *** over.

I heard the opposite also happened- swa pool guy at dl only until swa called and the swa base opened. Sometimes it's only about bases and not having to commute over the long term (and not having to move.)

It is true that a DL pilot left after a few years to come over to SWA. He was in one of the last few classes.

If SWA does what they say in ATL there should be vacancies there almost immediately. AAI does approx 200 flights a day out of the ATL and SWA said they will ratchet that up to 300 or so. Also depending on the SLI and fences there are many AAI guys in ATL that would love to bid out to other domiciles.

(AAI was running over 300 a day out of ATL a few years ago all by themselves)

Perhaps SWA will add a SWA domicile to ATL while the carriers are still operating separately in order to cover both new flying and aircraft and crews that are out for "re-tooling".
