Smile Eos/Maxjet startups

Well it has almost been a year and both companies are floundering at about the same rate. There are a couple more startups mirroring some of the concepts mostly in europe.

Eos has devoloped the exact product they claimed from the start. It gets rave reviews but is growing at a snails pace. The number of flights required to cover overhead according to my calculations would be six per day each way with 7 day frequency. Eos is steadily growing but must find a faster growth rate to offset continuing overhead obligations. Eos has an excellent on time performance, which is critical during the start up phase.

Maxjet changed course from an coach to a buisiness class configuration which seems to have some success. They have started two new cities with the LAS announcement. While this may look encouraging from thr first look, it comes at the cost of stretching an old 767 plan just to far. The MX problems that they have been having are just to many to continue to grow without adequate backup. ie.. spare A/C. The are developing a reputation for breaking especially at Stansted.

The customer base at both airlines are slightly divergent. Eos does seem to be attracting a higher class client. Maxjet has had the police meet the A/C a few times already.

The next test would seem to be, can Eos attract enough high class clients to continue to grow at more moderate rate before they run out of cash.

The next test for Maxjet is can they talk their problem investor into later model 767's before they run out of cash.

The race is on

Not unusual for start-ups to have these problems.
