Update on Hawaiian Hiring.

It's been a while since anything recent has been posted on hiring and quality of life at Hawaiian. I've turned in my application and was asked if I would be available for a November class. Anyone have an update, positive outlooks, or warning flags?

I've heard only good things really, esp. if you live on west coast or want to live in Hawaii.

May I ask your quals? Times? Internal rec?

No recommendations. I've got a little over 7500 TT with about 6000 hours almost evenly split between the CRJ and MD-11. My family's willing to move if the quality of life is there long term.

If you can handle Hawaii you bet it's there.

What's not to love.
There is some sacrifice due to cost of living but hopefully it gets better with next contract.
At least you're broke in paradise.
Good luck.

Have any calls for interviews gone out yet?

Pinopilot 09-22-2014 04:38 AM

Been trying to get a call for a few years. So what's the trick to get a call!

Exactly. Delta would jump in as a purely defensive move if someone else tries to acquire Hawaiian.

Why'd you want to work there? HA is a takeover target. Their CEO even stated the they'd like to merge with someone. At 4$ per share and when Southwest and Alaska figure out what they really want to do in the islands, they'll start a bidding war over them.

As someone else stated, it's probably not part of SW's plan. But I can see an Alaska/Hawaian merge.

Boyd thinks HAL makes for a poor aquisition.

Sometimes I wonder about this guys prognostications.

With Aloha Airlines gone this is the last good gig for those living in Hawaii and not wanting to commute

Any calls?

Yep calls went out and decisions already made. I was told more hiring to come but not for at least a few months yet.

I would love to hear of more hiring. I have been told not to expect more calls from this window and they are not forming a true pool anymore. I guess that means that you can plan on having to reapply.
I would guess wait and see when next vacancy comes out. I hope for early jan but prob more like May thru July is more realistic. :(

Also i think first intvs were 14th and finish by 28th'ish. They get an answer in a few weeks yes or no. Not left hanging any more.

app window

Is the application window still open? I guess I missed it. I really want to work here. Anyone know if HNL goes Junior?

No its not open.from what I know. 1300 apps, 50, interviewed and 18 vacancies. Rest in the pool. HNL is the only base so it goes everything.

Wow. Sounds like they hire just like Virgin America. Thanks for the information. Maybe we just merge with them and thats my ticket in lol.

Makai 10-16-2014 08:21 PM

1400 applied, 50 interviews scheduled for 12 new hires. Last hiring until the 321NEO's start to show up in 2016-2017.

FlytoSurf 10-16-2014 09:14 PM

Great info Makai. Hoping to get on in 2016 then. I have heard they like applicants that live on Oahu?

beebopbogo 11-21-2014 09:58 AM

Interviewed Oct 23, 2014. Still no word back either way. Anyone else in the same boat?

And in case anyone's curious:
5000TT
Live on island
4 internal recs
2000 Turbine PIC

Just a few questions about the 717-
How long is it supposed to stick around for?
What do the most junior lines/rsv look like?
Where is the sim training done?
Also, anyone know how long previous contract negotiations took?
Thanks for any info!!

Rama 12-10-2014 08:06 AM

Previously management had said through 2020 for the 717's. They will be refurbishing interiors next year and adding a row of seats, so I am guessing that is correct.
You may or may not be on reserve, depends on how the others bid, tough to say what the schedule will look like.
New-hire 717 typically in Miami, recurrent in Brisbane.
Negotiations took a long time. All the big boys are hiring and their contracts look good so hopefully will go better this time.

Sorry if I overlooked it, but can someone post the hiring minimums? Thanks!
