TSA Known Crewmember Program
I just read that this program still requires a pilot to be in uniform to go through. So what's the long-term plan if you aren't? Do you have to go wait in line and not jump ahead at all? Is there anything that we can do about this? I'm including a poll to see how many people travel out of uniform fairly regularly...

Bottom line. If you are not in uniform you are a passenger and subject to the same rules as they are. You can use the employee line but are subject to the same restrictions such as liquids, gels etc. Just curious, What would you like to "do about this"

But Known Crewmember with uniform is a better first step than no option, for now. |

....... Why didn't ALPA push for that part of the program too? Not sure what you are asking here...do you think pilots should be able to utilize KCM or jump to the front of the line when not working? |
I hate commuting in uniform, but I've given up. It's just too hard to commute in civies.

Utilize KCM. It should be based on whether or not you have an ID and are in cass, not how you are dressed. An example might be if I wanted to go meet a family member at their gate but the line is an hour long. Or deadheading to an assignment via a purchased ticket if your company doesn't require a uniform for that, etc...
Please don't push this at a checkpoint, all it will do is jeopardize the future usefulness of the program. Regular LEO's don't have to travel in uniform to bypass security! |
The way I look at it is that I wear my uniform typically for a four day trip for multiple legs. Me wearing it to DHD or jumpseat or non rev is no big deal...whats the difference, I wear it all the time anyway.
The second way I look at it is to simply play the game. If the rules of the game state that to use KCM I have to be in uniform then fine. |
I'd rather have them move the line to a more desirable location. ie at ORD, if you are going through the AA side, you have to walk pretty far to go through. When at times, the regular employee line is actually quicker.
