Default SWA flying to Lawton, OK??

Just curious. I was with family for Thanksgiving in Lawton, OK last week. I don't remember exactly which day it was (maybe Wednesday?), I saw an SWA 737 turning final for runway 17 at LAW (Lawton Municipal Airport). The weather was IFR and it looked like he was circling to land off the ILS to 35 (There's no instrument approach to 17 because of the Ft. Sill restricted airspace north of the airport.) Anyway, that airport is only served by AMR Eagle. Any of you SWA guys know if this was perhaps a military charter or maybe an emergency landing?

Again, just curious. Lawton is my hometown and I'm pretty sure SWA has not started service there. It really made me do a double take when I saw an SWA 737 turning final there!

A company I used to work at was doing some charter work in/out of Lawton in a DC-9 recently. I happen to be having lunch with some guys from there tomorrow, I'll ask what's so exciting about Lawton that they were in and out with -9s there.

Maybe SWA was subbing for them/someone else that day.

Flightaware says it was a 4 digit flight number from CAE (Columbia, SC) and then continued onto Dallas Love Field. Probably a MAC charter.

Yep, MAC charter to Ft. Sill I imagine.

Cool! Thanks for looking that up. (I didn't know you could use Flightaware to do that.) Military charter was definitely my best guess.

Go to flightaware, put in LAW in the airport box on bottom left, go to arrivals, hit MORE in blue, then hit Next 20 to scroll down until you hit the date. Do the same for departures and you'll find the flight to DAL.

I talked to my friend, that airline was doing oil company charters out of Lawton. He didn't know the destinations, but they were in the midwest/Texas area. Must be moving around all those oil workers drilling/running those wells.

Cool! I'll bet the folks at the LAW airport were glad to sell the fuel! (Hopefully they bought fuel there.) That airport has so much less activity than it did when I learned to fly in the 1970's and was on the airport authority board of directors and flying out of there back in the 1980's. It's sad to see aviation dwindling in places like that.
