Commuting from Honolulu
#1
Any airline/cargo pilots commute out of Hawaii? I'll be moving there because my wife is in the military, but there's not much prospect of joining Hawaiian or Aloha.
How easy or difficult is it and which airline would you recommend?

Have you checked with the C-17 guard unit at Hickam? If you could get hired on, you could just bum since your wife will still have all the bennies. I think your QOL would be much better then trying to commute back and forth to the mainland.

I commuted out of Honolulu for years and it is not that big of a deal. Flights fill up seasonally but carriers like Hawaiian and others will hand out as many jumpseats as they have seats. CAL flies to LAX, IAH and EWR out of HNL. You can get just about any major city non-stop.

I've only ever had one jumpseater from there.

I am currently doing the commute. The ease of the commute is seasonal. All in all, it works out. You just have to plan. Typically LIH on Kauai is easier than the other islands (including HNL) when the loads pick up.

BTW- Aloha is hiring.

Fedex has flights that I believe leave daily that go to L.A. and or OAK and vice versa.
