If we are short on TPIC, should we just not bother in applying then? Or, should we fill it out to show interest? How do they view this?

Thanks -

Everyone is different. I have never applied for a job that I am not qualified for but that is just me. To take that one step further, you may have to do a gut check and consider that if they get 5,000 apps for 50 slots, is it worth your time to go through the effort and then hope that they will notice that sometime down that road. Ultimately, it is up to you to figure out what you need to do.

life isnt fair

Sky High,
consider your self lucky in a certain way, and your quality of life will improve. Consider all of those pilots who have been to the commuters (the vast majority of airline pilots) have left there only to be furloughed, and looking for work over and over again. Starting over agin and again.I would expect that you have decent seniority, probably get weekends off, and hold a pretty good line.Life could be worse!
Take it from me, I flew commuters for 5 years, have flown wides for the last 5 years, and am back looking for a job again. You have a lot to be thankful for, and a lot of guys starting over would trade with you in a minute.
Hey I applied to Alaska as well, but probably wont even be acknowleged as I dont know anyone there, but still sent in my stuff, and can always hope right??
Im looking at a 24k a year position in my hometown, and have a wife and two kids to support. I could rant and rave about the injustice of it all,but where would that get me? Nowhere dude. I love to fly, and cant picture doing anything else, so Ill take the position if offered, and will make do.
Cheer up,enjoy your time off, and quit yearning for that position that is just out of reach. Youll probably find your self a lot happierin the long run. Fly safe,
Meash

And that is why they can still pay Mcdonalds wages, I am so tired of the I love to fly saying, this is a professional career, lets make employers understand that.

I thought I'd pass along some stats from a recent class here at Alaska.
  • 10 men, 1 woman
  • 4 from Horizon
  • 2 from McChord AFB
  • 3 with Alaska regional flying. PenAir, ERA, LAB
  • 1 brother of one of our captains
  • 4 live in Gig Harbor
  • 10 are married
Bottom line: All have strong ties to the Pacific Northwest. They all live around here and most got their flying experience around here or Alaska.

If any Alaska new hires can provide insight to their interview process, it would be appreciated.

Is the info on the mypilotcareers interview gouge site current?

ameasham,

I know that I am lucky. What is the saying? "If God really wants to punish you he answers your prayers." I had an interview in 2002 and am convinced that I nearly made it. They were trying to fill a class during the recession after 911 and decided to cut the whole thing.

If I had most likely would have spent most of the last ten years on reserve in LAX and much of that time on furlough. As I it turned out I was forced into another career path and things are much better for my family and I now. Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.

I know that AS is not the same company I started out for but what can you do? Dreams are dreams. Some are best left as such.

You would have been a line holding FO in lax the whole time and hundreds of numbers from furlough. Don't b so dramatic.

Oh, let him have been what he wouldn't have been, since he didn't want to be what he could have been. ;)

Sky,

If things are as you say they are in the quote above, why do you continue coming on these boards sharing your sour grapes with everyone and discouraging them from trying to reach their goals and fulfill their dreams? Seems to me that if things were really "better" for you that you'd be on to the "better" stuff and not have time to waste on this board whining about what didn't work out for you. Just saying....
