And for all the ancillary revenue haters, when was the last time popcorn was included in your movie ticket? Many NK flights are shorter than a movie, yet somebody buys a ticket for 9 bucks, and the airline is expected to provide for their care and feeding until they reach their destination?

Agreed RAM, suddenly when Spirit is in the news, the haters come out, and the airline takes it on behalf of the CHARITY of this industry, because everyone gets a refund on every NON-related issue with the actual flight.
It's a business.
It's a business.

Wow, you guys are unbelievable.
The US Veteran did not know he was terminal until after he bought the ticket. If he knew he was going to die he probably would have bought a refundable fare.
What a low class act by Spirit and lower by the pilot's replies on this thread.

What part of "Non Refundable" are you not comprehending? This happens at every airline every day. Where is the outrage at the other carriers?

Spirt offered him a discount on the ticket in exchange for his agreement that it would be non-refundable. He accepted the terms and Spirit gave him a discount. No refund. End of story.

You are taking everything out of context, NOBODY plans for one's death of a family member, (like me and AA did not refund my $900 of my nonrefundable ticket, they left it open for 12 calendar months, just in case I wanted to use it later for a HAPPY vacation.)
Neither did the airline the VET was terminal.
Still is a business and this is a capitalist country. What is it that you don’t get. If anything Veterans Affairs should have taken care of this gentleman. (That would mean that you and me paid for it, I’m ok with it, ARE YOU?)

Its all because of the greedy people running the airlines. We all know these heartless bastards running the airlines care about one thing. Lining there pockets with more cash. No matter what anyone says here. The negative news reports will cost them more than $197. I know the ticket was non-refundable but a little bit of heart and compassion go along way. I am sure SW would have refunded the ticket.
