At united, can you be involuntarily bumped out of a domicile by another pilot senior to you? Or does there have to be a slot open? At my airline, you can't be bumped out unless there is a downgrade.

At UAL, no. Not sure about CAL. We should (cough) have the details of the AIP on the JCBA in the next few (several?) weeks. Nothing is being officially released until final language is complete.

Are the Comair guys S-DAL? At least for the next 20 days, I mean?

We are the subsidiary, after all.

Sure. Knock yourselves out.

"Automatic".. no (just my opinion)
But reality- Anyone hired off the street needs to understand that there are about 1000 pilots/names/number waiting in the wings (potentially), that could be ahead of you, for up to 10 years!

Now, not all of those 1000 guys/gals will be coming back, and on top of that, with retirements and growth.. depending on when you get hired off the street, you will probably be ok.
But you should and need to be aware of this "fact"

Motch

Not applying and not trying to flame, but are you guys going to get a seniority list worked out? If not, the furloughees could go at the bottom of an arbitrated list ala Bloch UsAir east/west.

We aren't going to do our SLI (seniority list integration) until the contract is done and signed. It might take awhile to hammer out those details.

Add to that the one issue that has already been resolved between L-UAL and S-CAL as part of the TPA: any new-hires will go behind every single pilot on both lists, and yes, furloughees are on the list.

This will be the first test of the revised ALPA merger policy and of course the S-CAL group is screaming, "staple the UAL furloughees!" and L-UAL group is screaming, "not so fast---LONGEVITY is now a criteria and our most senior furloughees have eight years on property."

Nobody will know jack until the Arbitrator(s) decide which supposedly will take around six months after the point that the MEC's approve a TA for the JCBA.

I believe the sli must be complete with arbitrator's decision in 6 months after jcba is implemented

I think a lot can be learned from recent history. I posted the experience at Pinnacolaba a few days ago in the signing bonus thread. Of course only Pinnacle got a bonus, but since we were ALPA, I thought it may help you guys on what to expect.

We also combined 3 pilot groups in to one list during our merger so our experience may serve to prepare you. If I remember right, all furloughed pilots went behind all current pilots. All pilots hired after the merger was announced were put behind the furloughed pilots.

At CAL, on normal bids you cannot be bumped out of your BES (Base/Equipment/Seat). Currently there is a system bid open with 450 or so vacancies. The only domicile without vacancies showing on the bid is CLE. Someone cannot bid into CLE and bump someone else out. As you said, there generally has to be a position open in the base.

However, if there was a displacement/reduction like the massive reshuffle we had a few years ago, then a more senior bidder being displaced could displace someone out of a BES his seniority could hold.
