FYI: United to spool up hiring?
For those interested, reports indicate United will be filling classes with off-the-street hires on the S-CAL side starting in November. See this thread in the UAL/CAL merger section.
Cliff notes: Currently UAL is offering jobs to furloughed L-UAL pilots at S-CAL and have filled classes through October with these pilots. Currently 12 pilots per week are starting class (48/mo) and apparently this tempo will continue through spring '13 when the S-CAL training center is typically shuttered for summer flying. Any pilots hired at either L-UAL or S-CAL will be placed behind all pilots on both pre-merger seniority lists per the Transition and Process Agreement (TPA).

Terms Explained
L-UAL means "Legacy UAL" (Guys who worked for original United).
S-UAL is the new merged management's term for "Subsidiary United" (since our seniority lists aren't merged yet). It is the same as the above.
L-CAL and S-CAL are Legacy/Subsidiary as above.

i guess it makes sense in the first sentence where he mentions this - but in the last sentence this should probably say S-CAL and S-UAL as pilot hired (off the street) now would be hired into the respective subsidiary?
further pointers on this -
- assumes no joint contract prior hiring - once (if ever) that happens i guess hiring would be technically into one company but they will probably still refer to hiring into either legacy fleet. (?)
- UAL needs to recall before they can hire off the street

still 1400 on furlough
some hired at CAL
similar deal as going to skywest or gojet though. (slightly different pay but starting at the bottom of the list as new hire)
not sure how many switched from gojet/skywest to the cal offer. guess the majority.

Hiring at S-CAL
OK, maybe a stupid question here. Let's assume for a minute that S-CAL starts hiring off the street before the seniority lists are merged. Let's also assume that at the time the lists are merged, L-UAL still has guys out on furlough. These guys will have higher seniority numbers than the new hires. Are there automatic recalls and furloughs for the new guys?

"Automatic".. no (just my opinion)
But reality- Anyone hired off the street needs to understand that there are about 1000 pilots/names/number waiting in the wings (potentially), that could be ahead of you, for up to 10 years!
Now, not all of those 1000 guys/gals will be coming back, and on top of that, with retirements and growth.. depending on when you get hired off the street, you will probably be ok.
But you should and need to be aware of this "fact"
