Delta Pilot Open Time app for Android

There is an app on the google play store for Delta pilots open time. It is called "SpotFlight". It sends notifications of rotations from open time to your device when the trips go to open time. And you can filter what you want by date, trip length, etc. Works great for me. Has anyone else seen it or using it?

JetFlyer06 11-05-2012 07:59 AM

I haven't seen it, but will check it out. Is it secure somehow? I hope there isn't an app just sending out rotation info without first verifying that the person is an active employee.

JetFlyer06 11-05-2012 08:02 AM

Looks like it does require your username/pwd and runs in the background on your phone. $10

DeadHead 11-05-2012 08:06 AM

Anything available for IPhone? Or any plans.

Icrew max is a bit steep $12/month

Here is their web page link so you can check it out:

$12 a month? I got 13 months for $36

73NASLC 11-05-2012 08:15 AM

I did hear iphone is in the works

JetFlyer06 11-05-2012 08:41 AM

Icrewmax is $21 for six months standard and with the open time add on it is $42.

$3.50 per month standard
$7 per month std plus open time add on

I don't use the open time add on but it would be nice to be notified, emailed, etc when new open time trips pop up. We had something like that at NWA but I can't remember what the program was called. It had a monthly cost as well.

Had a subscription for 3 months for $36, but I never renewed.
When did you get that price recently?
Seems like the pricing keeps changing, and not to sound cheap, but it seems a little steep for the functionality you get.
Great app though.

Wow... I think jetblue people have that for free!

Just noticed the price drop.
Still don't think it justifies a monthly subscription.

They no longer do the yearly subscriptions which was the cheaper option.

I didn't like it. It was not fair.

A one time $10 fee versus paying monthly fees to Flightline or iCrewMax appeals to me.

+1 I think some of these guys are getting a bit greedy.

Considering an application like Foreflight is around the same price and offers a TON of information and functionality for the price.

How so? How is that any different than getting your wife book your jumpseat vs single guys/gals (everyone likes to assume you're married around here...weird)?

People dial in at the same time for hot jumpseats. They hover on the phone or computer waiting until the clock strikes 12 to mash the button It is NO different if the computer does it.

Is it any different than software that pings people with open time? What if you're inflight between PCS runs? How is that fair? Or people who get text messages or have the time to waste hovering around the computer?

It's not like some wonk cooked it up in his basement, and was just using it for himself and his buds. It was available to everyone.

If that's the touchstone we're using, then we'd better go back to once a day open time at midnight.

Can I assume you are the owner or at least a beta tester for Spotlight? A couple of questions. It is listed as costing $10, but then on the website it mentions a "subscription" but no mention of the specs. So is it a one-time $10 cost, or is it $10 a month, or something else?

That's my question too.

XtremeF150 11-06-2012 02:39 PM

I heard Icrewmax was going to be disabled or something from another crewmember. My subscription just expired and I want to verify this before getting another of these apps. Great to hear some competition is out there. Hopefully keep these prices in check.

I dislike how we have to rely on 3rd party vendors and apps to make navigating Delta's scheduling system somewhat easy. Why can't the company just come into this century with the technology? Regionals have way better software than we have

Agreed, why don't they come out with an iPhone/android app for us to check and acknowledge our schedules? They are always looking for ways to reduce the workload on crew tracking/sched. I can't imagine it would cost that much to produce or maintain. Security might be an obstacle though.

yep, and supposedly the Delta app allows you to look at the standby and cleared lists for nonrev, but I can't ever get that to work either. Our IT is seriously lacking. I'd be happy if just the web based program was more user friendly. It took me a few phone calls just to figure out how to swap a reserve day. I don't see why there can't be a windows style calendar that I just "point and click" on the days I want to swap. But perhaps the weird processes actually help out because it keeps lazy people from trying to figure it out.

73NASLC 11-06-2012 04:38 PM

I tested it. Been testing for a couple of months. I believe it is $10 one time. Here is the flyer:
SPOTFLIGHT
Delta Air Lines Open Time Table application for pilots.
The highly anticipated SpotFlight app is the first of its kind available from the Google Play Market. Now Delta Air Lines pilots can parse the Open Time table automatically or manually and be notified immediately when there is a trip matching their preference. The notification is audio and similar to getting a notification of a text message. SpotFlight provides the ability to enter all the settings that the actual Open Time website offers as well as additional filters to ensure you are notified only of trips you want. Pilots are now able to target and search for specific trips without ever accessing their computer. It's as simple as inputting your username and password, then pressing the start button. This secure app runs efficiently in the background without distracting the user. Months of testing has shown battery and data usage is minimal and not noticeable to the average user.
This app is available through the google play store (search for spotflight in apps) or at spotflightapp.com. This app is $9.99 one time. Never pay anything again for this app! This offer is good through 2012 and then will go to a subscription service. Planned fee starting January 2013 is $2.50/month. If you get the app before 2013 you will get all updates and add-ons free forever! Sign up now, $9.99 once, never pay again and get all improvements, upgrades and updates free!
Check it out. It works great!
Search “spotflight” in the google play store or go to spotflightapp.com

If more and more people get this, the less reserves we will need.

Well, we're working our way to not needing pilots at all so what's your point? Jk.

But doesn't reserve suck anyway? I've heard that for eons. In any case this app is just a tool to let guys improve their lot in life. If I have a crappy trip next week, and this app "pings" me to let me know that a much better trip over the same days just popped into open time, rest assured I am going to put in a swap request. I might not get it, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I don't think anyone anywhere thinks "gee, even though I have crappy trips on my schedule, I should just mournfully fly them as scheduled, and make no attempts to improve my trips, all so we can 'need more reserves'" (?)

That was the beauty of ezopenboard, it emailed you when a trip popped up so you could pick up, swap, etc and improve your schedule for the month. The guys who max out with white slips are going to do that regardless of whether or not there is an app/service pinging them its available trips.

That is exactly what I am talking about--I wish Delta (lack of) Technology could provide such a thing! In any case, I know the guys white slipping to ALV+15 (or swapping to more than that) will do so regardless. But the bottom line is that others just want to fly better trips over the same days, and this is another tool to possibly facilitate that.

Wilbur Wright 11-08-2012 05:00 AM

Took the plunge and downloaded the app. At first blush I like it. Well see how well it works when new trips drop into open time.

I agree this sort of thing is something Delta should provide, but until then I'm glad there is a third party option.

jabwmu 12-29-2012 06:08 PM

Just went to download Icrew Max and says they aren't accepting new or renewal subscriptions. The app is under a security evaluation from Delta. Hope it doesn't go away forever. Also says currect subscribers can continue with the app.

yeah, the iCrew Max people just said we'll need to enter our password for each download (Delta doesn't want the password stored on our phones).

wouldn't it be nice if Delta IT was as diligent about fixing their own product as they are about policing others' (vastly superior) products?

I hope it gets resolved soon. I just got a new phone and was looking forward to getting Icrew Max again.

Funny and sadly true about the IT.

sailingfun 12-30-2012 04:19 AM

I downloaded the app. It has a major limitation for me. Unless I am missing something you can't set a date range to check for trips. I don't want to get messages for trips all month long. As a example I have a window where I want to pick something up in Jan. Its a 6 day block. I would want the app only to alert me on flights in that date range but I can't find a way to do it. Am I missing something?

When I used the app, there was an option to rate a trip in open time with either a white, red, or green star. New trips in the pot would appear with a white, or blank, star next to it.

Not sure if that feature has changed or not, but I found it useful because I would just put a red star next to trips I didn't want. The stars would not change between PCS runs, so it was an easy way to distinguish a new trip that pops up in open time.

Kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it?

LivingTheDream 12-30-2012 05:18 AM

Needs work. My flightline account is far superior. I.E., I can see the entire rotation so I can decide if I really want the trip. Also, I can get alerts for all er bases, so I can monitor those bases for potential out-of-base trips. Hopefully these features will be added in future versions
