Default How accurate are US seat maps?

How accurate are US seat maps? I'm looking at a flight that's about a week out and there are 30+ seats showing open.

Really depends on the route/airline policy. I know on some carriers whose tix are sold on a site like hotwire, the seat will not be assigned to be assigned at the gate. In that case the seat map will show seats for the website customers to choose from with the hotwire getting what's left assigned at the gate.

For clarification, I'm looking for info on US Airways. I have a contact there, but I only want to hit her up the day before for load info.

The seating chart on USAirways.com *usually* shows fewer seats than are actually available, but as always it depends.

The employee site will show the number of unbooked/unpaid seats as the number of available seats. When you look at USAirways.com, you'll usually see fewer seats available than what the employee site shows because it is showing seats that are booked, but not yet paid for, as occupied. At least thats what I've been told.

Within an hour of departure is when you get the best accuracy on either site, naturally.
