I've flown with guys like you. I especially liked the guy who told me that the FMS computed climb speeds weren't the best ones to use as he'd computed out his own climb schedule.
Sometimes the other guy might be right. |

Anyone have any knowledge of what gets your turned faster towards your intended route?
we departed today on 31L Canarsie climb destination SFO, They typically fly you in the opposite direction for a bit before turning you to join your airway. What is better climb faster/slower indicated or faster indicated and possible lower climb rate, in order to get the turn to the airway? I always thought it was distance so flying faster would be better, but the guy I was flying with today thought a getting higher faster was better. Both make sense to me, why would you want to blast off 300kts in the wrong direction right? but if you don't get the turn until X amount of miles from the airport then wouldn't getting there faster be better? |

You're doing it wrong!
When you are in NYC airspace, and they ask you for your speed, you say, "What's it to you? You got a problem? You want to know my speed? How's it feel to want!" and the F/O should look at you and say, "Tell him I got his fkng speed, right here!" and grab his crotch. And when they hand you off to BOS, be sure you sign off with, "Contact Boston on 128.5, and the Yankees still suck!":D |

Post of the year! Well done, Sir. Happy New Year to all.
Thanks. I spent my first 20 years in aviation flying from BOS-NYC. I've found that if you talk to them in their own language, you'll get much better handling! :D One night I said, "Can I have direct PVD, or should I just go fk myself?" When he stopped laughing, I got direct BOS! And Happpy New Year to all, I'll be up there in the stratosphere at midnight, heading to Tokyo, leave on 31, chase the sun all day, and land on 01, I'll miss the party, but I have no doubt some of you will take up the slack for me! ;) |
DXB for two days. Land before the fun begins on the 31st with friends from EK. Heck of a job but somebody's gotta do it.

It was a great show, but if you are going to actually try to go down to the Birj to see it, you have to get down there very early, like noon! The traffic on the roads that we could see from our balcony was not even moving from about 10pm on. They all had to sit in their cars, while we had a great view from our hotel. Here's a sample from that night in 2011: New Years Eve in Dubai - Burj Khalifa 2011 - YouTube |

You're going all the way to SFO and worried about what you can do to make one turn on the departure faster? (and you won't be able to change it by much...)
My guess is no matter what you do, you won't be able to notice it by the time you get there. Just fly your company's profile and airspeeds like everyone else. Its easier. |

A green dot climb out of JFK doesn't make much sense. The heavies out of there are running around at 280 knots just to suck up the slats. I always go diplomatic first, and then ease on the logic. If that doesn't take, then I'll start to have fun with them. :) Unless they buy all the beer. Then there is a bit more leeway... |
