Do you think they would be big enough to compete with the big airlines? I think from a costumer stand point the product is better than the legacies.
Positive or Negative lets talk about it from a costumer stand point.

I think Jetblue/Virgin has a lot of merit. Not sure how Frontier would fit into the picture.
Hubs in BOS, JFK, FLL, MCO, LAX, SFO would be a great start if youre either looking to be a codeshare feeder for international carriers, or eventually get into the widebody flying yourself.
Frontier seems to be positioning themselves to be an ultra-LCC similar to Spirit. I wouldnt be surprised to see Spirit pick them up at firesale prices.

I definitely think in the next 3-7 years you will see two of the following merge:
Allegiant
Spirit
Frontier
JetBlue
Virgin America
By guess would be JetBlue and Virgin America.
The legacies have all merged and are down to just three: AA, DL, and UA. If the LCCs hope to compete and be successful in the long run, some of them will have to merge.

I see JB buying Frontier's aircraft but merging not so much. The words of RM at JB about VA to me "why merge with a company when we can wait for them to go BK and buy the aircraft for pennies on the dollar." I see a merger with JB, Alaska & Hawaiian before Frontier or VA.

VX doesn't own the planes, they are leased. Some of those leases are actually due up in the next year. Even if VX was to fold, the leasing companies would get the airplanes back to re-lease elsewhere or sell them. It's not like VX owns planes that can be sold for "pennies" on the dollar. You are thinking more of what happens to a public company when they start Chp 7 liquidation with airplanes they own. Nice try though.
