Default iPad Mini or Regular

If you had your choice would you go w/ a mini or full size iPad? For flight deck, hotel, etc....

Thanks - Baja

Get the larger screen, it is far superior (retina display) for reading or watching movies/tv on the road. I recently purchased a refurbished IPAD 3 with retina display and it is outstanding. Also, the refurb was considerably cheaper. While it is heavier than the mini I think the experience is worth the extra weight.

I bought the mini last year, and I love it. I am a commuter, and the mini works great to watch movies/read books on the airplane, etc.

Mini hands down. Less weight, less bulkiness. No retina is not an issue due to its screen size. Great battery life.

I think the retina display is necessary to read words more clearly.

That's not to say you can't read on a mini or older version of the Ipad, but if you compare the two you'll see the difference.

I have read aviation reviews that the retina display was not an issue because the mini uses the same screen and tech that the regular ipad uses. Therefore on the smaller screen the images look very similar and can not see a difference. The jepp paper charts are the same size as the mini that we are all use too anyway. If you really need the retina display, I believe it will be available on the mini this fall at some point. The only time I can see a regular Ipad worth it is if your doing a lot of studying on it and want a bigger screen, but other than that the mini uses the same hardware and very similar and approved by jepp.

I have both as well, a personal mini and company full size. I prefer to use the full size one, easier to read. But for my motorcycle travels the mini is easier to pack!
