From: V1. No turning back now.
Not sure if this needs to go here, or elsewhere in the forums, but anyone have any insight on Peoplexpress? They should be starting up here soon, and just want to see what the outlook is for pilot hiring and what others' thoughts are!
Thanks

People express supposedly bought Xtra Airways and will use their crews. Although PEX has been having real money problems and hasn't paid Xtra yet so I wouldn't hold my breath that this will ever happen.

Anyone remember the original People Express paint job, with the, "Dancing Worms" on the tail?

I remember the first time I saw one, when they first started up in EWR, I was flying cancelled checks into EWR every night, and we taxied by one of their jets and I said, "What the Fark is THAT?"
A few years later, my Dad was flying for them and I was riding on their jumpseats. But you had to bring your own coffee cup, because they charged 50 cents for one of their paper cups!

And yet, as much as we may disparage "PeasantsExpress" today, pilots were stumbling all over each other to try to get hired there in the early 80's.
Remember everybody hurrying to take their dispatcher's written exam, which was required to apply to "Brownhound"?
Some things never change...

A little history. I flew for them from their start-up until I left to go to NWA in early 85. We hired a bunch of ex Braniff and striking Continental guys. We had a very quick up-grade time. A lot of those guy's got their 737 type rating and then left to go back home to Dallas and fly for this start-up "Southwest". You never know!
