A United Boeing 767-300, registration N665UA performing flight UA-967 from Rome Fiumicino (Italy) to Washington Dulles,DC (USA), was enroute at FL320 over France, when radio communication was lost between air traffic control and the aircraft. French fighter aircraft were dispatched to intercept the Boeing, broke the sound barrier on their way towards the Boeing causing lot of emergency calls on the ground, and checked the Boeing, the crew of which restored radio communication shortly afterwards. The aircraft did not squawk losscomm at any time. The aircraft continued across the Atlantic Ocean to its destination for a safe landing about 8:50 hours later.
French Air Force reported the aircraft had lost radio contact and had deviated from its assigned course prompting the intercept.

If the pilots would have held up their hands in the shape of a gun, the fighters would have done evasive maneuvers and the pilots ejected.
You know why French surplus rifles are the best? Because they've never been shot and only dropped once.
