Does anybody have numbers on how many military pilots are expected to leave and come over to the majors? I know it's a big complex question, but any stats out there?
I'm sure we would all love some hard numbers, but even a guess at how many are in now at all the branches and a historical percentage of those who leave would be a good start. In addition, about 2,400 qualified pilots leave the U.S. military each year. Opinion: The Pilot Shortage Myth | Commercial Aviation content from Aviation Week |
My guess is since the ATP requirement change, airlines will have to recruit from the military since a civilian is going to have a much harder time getting to the 1500 hour mark than a military pilot who only needs to hit 750

This is the only semi-official figure I've read. From an AW&ST article:

I thought it was 750 hours if graduated from a MIL flight school too.
