Delta has sent out this email trying to find those who were hired pre 9-11, but never started class:
Folks,
Delta has attempted to contact those pilots who were offered jobs in 2001, but never came to class due to circumstances beyond our control. Many of the addresses we had on file are no longer valid. If you know any of these pilots, please ask them to contact us per the text in the letter I’ve included below:
Dear [Pilot]:
On Wednesday, December 20th, I had the pleasure of announcing that Delta Air Lines would begin accepting pilot applications for the first time since 2001. I wanted to be sure you were aware of this, and if you have maintained your currency and qualifications, I would like to offer you the opportunity to re-apply and interview on a preferential basis based on your successful completion of Delta’s rigorous pilot selection process prior to the hiring freeze announced in 2001. You may visit Delta.com for more information regarding our application process and for a link to airlineapps.com, the company that is managing our pilot applications. There is no charge for a single application through that service.
If you are interested in this opportunity, please send an email within 15 days of the date of this letter to [email protected] with 2001 PREFERRED CANDIDATE in the subject line. Include your phone number and address in the main body of the message. You will be contacted and be offered an opportunity to come to Atlanta for testing and, potentially, an interview. This is not an offer of employment, and you must again successfully complete Delta’s pilot selection process in its entirety to be considered for employment.
I realize that this has been an extremely difficult time for you and your family. The events of September 11, 2001 and their aftermath radically changed the industry marketplace, and Delta was forced to make the painful decision to cease hiring and furlough pilots. In the time since, we have accomplished a great deal to adapt to a permanently altered revenue environment. We are excited about our future and I look forward to you successfully completing the pilot selection process and joining the Delta team. This is a great airline, and I am confident that we can succeed in leading the industry for many years to come.
I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully meeting you in person if you choose to accept this challenge. If you have further questions, please contact Delta’s Chief Pilot Support Center at 877-DAL-2FLY.
Good luck to those who still might be interested!
JJ
