Have people actually done the layover and are coming to the conclusion, or just jumping to a conclusion without actually doing it just because it isn't in DT Seattle?

Hang on here.... We fly west of Texas?

Nope, i've done both and would consider Tacoma location to be a little below average, but when compared to our previous spot it is really sad.

Well, we pointed the aircraft West by mistake and just kept flying until we saw a coastline. That made everyone feel better so we landed safely. Unfortunately, nobody spoke spanish so I'm not sure how long this will last ;)

No place to eat?

If you're stuck in tacoma for a while, definitely play golf at Chambers Bay.

Respect skipper! Filed and duly noted. I would have hoped the hometown didn't disappoint however I flew into PUJ back in the day in GA and stayed with the boss at some nice places so just figured that would have followed.

Ok, I get it, not DT Seattle, I get it. No spending your per diem on shopping. But DT Tacoma does have many great places to eat and the waterfront is pretty nice. A miles long cement trail along the water front with many places to eat on the water, jog or take a walk. You can enjoy several different water sports along the water way there. Some of the places to eat:

Pacific Grill (great happy hour and awesome food)
El Gaucho (great steaks)
Indochine (great asian)
The Swiss
The Harmon Brewery
Fujiya (one of my favorite Sushi places)
Galanga Thai (a great Thai place)
The Melting Pot
India Mahal (Indian)
El Toro
The Matador
The Ram
The Lobster Shop
CI Shenanigan's
Duke's Chowder House
Anthony's
Johnny's Seafood (great fresh fish)
Harbor Light's
The Spar (oldest bar in T-town)
The Parkway
Doyle's (great place to watch soccer)
The Hub

All of these are either in downtown or close to and then many more I didn't mention.

There's the Lemay Car Museum
Tacoma Art Museum
Museum of Glass (of Chihuly fame)
Tacoma Symphony
History Museum's
and there is a whole new development on the waterfront down on Ruston way which will include a nice Theater etc.

And yes, the 2015 US Open is at:

Chambers Bay Golf Course - US Open

If you get in early enough, you can take the train to DT Seattle for a Baseball game or even a FootBall game.

Summer time there is a Farmer's market downtown. Just thinking from a layover standpoint, I don't really think there is no reason to hate downtown Tacoma. And depending on traffic I usually can make it to SeaTac in 30 minutes, which sometimes depending on traffic it can take 30-60 minutes to get to downtown Seattle from SeaTac.

Yes, I'm bias......:)
