Anyone living in Fayetteville? My wife's been looking at Zillow....uh-oh...

Smyrna and west Marietta have some good areas under the traffic mess. About 30-40 mins to airport with multiple access ways to the airport. Selectively you can get in good elementary schools...close to several of the best private schools in ATL area. It's more city with a town feel. Good luck.

Married, 50-ish, but raising 4 year old GB. Also have wife who hates traffic and congestion. Would like good elementary school, at least.

Thanks for the quick replies folks! Free Bird, I'm curious...why Newnan over Fayetteville?
|
Fayetteville has some bad areas especially north. Newnan schools are sub-par to Peachtree city. Yes there are quite a few Delta pilots in PTC but it's not what it use to be. Before you buy google map the area watch out for train tracks and Walmarts.

Atlanta living?
Ditto don't buy near the walmart in PTC

My biased $.02: I haven't lived in GA since 1997 but I grew up in Fayette County, lived in both Fayetteville and PTC. The school system in the county is pretty good. I am a product of the public schools there and I turned out okay (at least I think I did ;)). PTC is cool in the fact that you can get all around the city in a golf cart. Got a Delta bud that lives there and really likes it (kids are in middle school). My parents now live in Coweta County now (Newnan/Senoia/etc) and like it there. The schools are not rated as well as Fayette county, though.
With KATL being south of downtown Atlanta, living to the south will make the driving a little more bearable. The morning traffic reports for the north side were like a broken record; "bumper-to-bumper on I-85 southbound from inside the perimeter (I-285) up past Pleasant Hill Rd. To the west, just as bad. I-75 is at a standstill coming out of Marietta from Cobb County." Afternoon rush hour was the same. I am biased to the south side but there are plenty of areas down there to suit many tastes, from highly manicured yards w/bossy HOAs to semi-rural and open space acreage. If I am blessed with the opportunity to fly for Big D and move back I will definitely go for either Fayette or Coweta County. Lastly, and I think I posted this before, but avoid Clayton County. The city of Clayton up in north Georgia is nice, but the county by the same name, well, not so much. -4FF |
Atlanta living?
I grew up near Marietta and I just got the opportunity to move back to the Atlanta area this past summer. Much to my surprise, we chose PTC. After looking up north in areas like Alpharetta and Kennesaw, I realized I just couldn't handle the constant congestion. Living in PTC has been great so far. The drive to the airport is 35 minutes and the traffic is a fraction of the north side. I take my kids to school in a golf cart and we really like the overall "bubble" of PTC. Sharpsburg is nice if you want to stretch out a little bit more, but try and stay in the Northgate school district. Anyway, I'm totally converted to a south of towner now. Good luck in your search!

As the saying goes Decatur where it's Greater. Good schools, surburban living but close to downtown. Expensive but well worth the minutes saved driving to and from work. Almost never any traffic on 285 on the east side going to the airport.
