Default Special TOTD Poll

Let's say you got the jumpseat on another airline. The CA leaves, and you take it upon yourself to sit in his seat, without being invited. The FO makes a remark that you shouldn't. Your next step should be to:

Seeing as the FO is the one in charge (at that moment, as far as YOU are concerned) you should say Roger that and start pulling out the jumpseat. End of discussion.

And its a major league TOTD when a FA plops down in any pilot seat, but that's another issue.

I would never presume to sit in anything but the jumpseat unless asked or directed to do so by the crew.

And if you explain why it's not a great idea very calmly and diplomatically, they usually are very apologetic, instead of going alfa-sierra on the internet.

Going all AS? Alaska Airlines?

The point isn't that they do it, its why they do it. I doubt very much the FAA is cool with it, but no airline will dare upset the proletariat by putting it in a memo, and most pilots are just too nice to say anything.

FOM - only current and qualified may occupy a control seat. If you define "qualified" as a Delta pilot qualified in that particular aircraft, you can keep almost anyone out of the seat.

I agree with you...

But what about little kids that visit the cockpit? I'd hate to not let them get a picture in the pilot's seat based on that.

what if the Captain gets locked out of the cockpit, then you let the FAs sit there for landing rigt?

I've never thought of this, I always invite people to sit in the seat, but generally I never off to let them sit in the seat I'm sitting in While I am sitting in It. Most FAs sit side saddle and gives me an opportunity to show them what we are seeing on the AC system so they understand what we can and can't do.

Pretty sure that's while you're flying. But then again, it doesn't say that I don't think.
