OK, rules gurus….
What and where can one find the required time/distance for takeoff intervals between aircraft for wake separation.
examples: MD-88 behind 757
md-88 behind 737.
Im seeing a lot of large/small behind heavy references, but nothing which states that the 757 is now no longer considered a heavy…….

From FAAH 7110.65, para. 5-5-4:
1. Heavy behind heavy− 4 miles.
2. Large/heavy behind B757− 4 miles.
3. Small behind B757− 5 miles.
4. Small/large behind heavy − 5 miles.
These rules apply for departure and other phases of flight besides landing. The minima get modified a bit for landing aircraft.

In Chicago in an A320 I was cleared to take off behind a 757 as they were rotating. I asked the controller why he wasn't using 2 minutes or 5 miles and he said certain airports had authority to reduce the separation. Not sure exactly where to find that in writing though.

Crosswind? Runway track versus runway heading?
