Don't think this is correct. The DOJ can conduct an antitrust review to determine whether any merger results in an anticompetitive situation. The DOT only assists in this determination.

Any future merger will come under intense scrutiny, just my guess but the DOJ will probably try to draw a line in the sand. This of course is dependent on which party holds onto the Executive Branch.

I'm not sure that is accurate. Sometimes as a stipulation to approving a merger the DOJ will require slots be given up or something along those lines.

Seriously it's been quite some time already. He must be busy picking the new paint job and uniforms already. If I've learned anything from 3 airlines, it's that when a new head comes in they have to mark their territory with paint and fabric, even when you are broke during a bankruptcy and asking for paycuts.....OR maybe he's been working super hard to secure the pilots and flight attendants new industry leading compensation packages?

This is true I don't see an Allegiant Merger with Anyone, at least until Maury leaves, he doesn't play well with others.

You have it flipped. DOJ doesn't make the final decision, DOT does. The DOJ typically raises hell on every merger, but DOT lets it go forward with minor restrictions (see below)

Yes, reread what you quoted:

The DOT/DOJ only gets involved when limited entry slot airports are involved. Spirit and Frontier don't have much in the way of slots so there won't be any deal breaker concessions from the DOT/DOJ. The DOJ will definitely cry about less competition and reduced options for traveling public, but the DOT will allow the merger.

I have a question to all those who appear to stay awake at night worrying about a merger: should one happen, do you plan to quit? If the answer to that is no, then why even think about it? Not that I have anything against anyone senior to me quitting, it just seems pointless to worry about things over which one has exactly zero control...

It's a long career; many possible mergers, financial meltdowns, bankruptcy filings, contract concession talks, furlough threats and tears to come.

If the rumor of a merger is enough to stress anyone out, may be time to punch the eject button from this career at this time.
