Default ANR headset restrictions

We have a little sh*tstorm brewing at SWA right now concerning use of active noise reduction (ANR) headsets.

Have any of your companies restricted use of ANR headsets?

Have any of your companies specifically mandated use of TSO'd headsets?

Thanks for your helpful replies. We are trying to fight the insanity and save the Bose QC2 - UFlyMike combo.

I don't have an ANR headset but I learned a couple of days ago that if your batteries run down the headset doesn't work at all. Is that what the company is upset over?

As I understand it, the FAA has a problem with the fact that these home brewed ANRs have TOO much noise cancelling. That some cockpit sounds that would service as a warning to the crew could go unnoticed.

What do you mean by homebrewed? People actually make their own headsets or they modify ones they already have?

By homebrewed, I mean the Bose QuietComfort earphones with the uflymike add-on. Lots of pilots are using them, but they're not exactly legal. So yes, the modified ones...

The Bose X is actually a made for Aviation Headset. The Bose Quiet Comfort 2 was made primarily for use as audio headphones. A company a while back (uflymike) came up with a way to modify the QC2s adapting a mike to plug into the audio jack thus enabling it for use as an aviation headset. It's a great set from what I've heard, but it definitely wasn't made out to be utilized in that way. It also makes carrying a headset very convenient as they fit together in the case that the QC2s come in. It's just as big as the Telex case. Here are some links:

FedEx has stated that a non-TSO'd headset is unacceptable.

At FDX, any used must be FAA TSO's of 500 ohms impedance may be used.
